INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

The Material Way is a collective platform for material-based research, dedicated to supporting curious creators in shaping a more holistic, local, and nature-minded future. Founded by creative director Bonnie Hvillum (Natural Material Studio) and communicator Rita Trindade (Through Objects), it is a natural extension of their previous collaboration on online courses exploring local biomaterials.
With the intention of developing a network that brings makers and designers together, The Material Way gathers established artists and researchers as guest lecturers within an international program, Local Bio-based Materials. The culmination of the program is an in-person gathering and showcase in Europe.

FOUNDERS

BONNIE HVILLUM
Founder of Natural Material Studio, a Danish cross-disciplinary design company that drives toward expanding our collective understanding and relation to materials. The studio works from a renewable and circular point of view, with both science, biology, technology, design and art as the building blocks to create the new normal for sustainable living.
RITA TRINDADE
Rita Trindade is a Portuguese creative who merges her passion for human-crafted objects with her professional background in design and communication. In 2017, she founded Through Objects with the intention of sharing compelling narratives within contemporary objects.
